Pharmacological properties

bearberry leaf preparations in vitro have an antibacterial effect against proteus vulgaris, i.e. coli, ureaplasma urealyticum, mycoplasma hominis, staphylococcus aureus, pseudomonas aeruginosa, klebsiella pneumoniae, enterococcus faecalis, streptococcus strains, as well as.

The antibacterial effect is mainly associated with hydroquinone aglycones, which are released from arbutin or from products formed during the excretion of arbutin. When hydroquinone is released from conjugates (hydroquinone glucuronide and sulfate), the enzymatic activity of microorganisms that cause urinary tract infections is blocked.

At the same time, bearberry leaf extract, due to the presence of tannins, reduces the adhesion of bacteria to the host cell.

Pharmacokinetics Bearberry leaf arbutin (a prodrug) is adsorbed in the small intestine and fermented, as well as metabolized in the liver. As a result, hydroquinone conjugates are converted by a second reaction to the form of hydroquinone glucuronide and sulfate. These non-toxic compounds are water soluble and excreted in the urine.

In metabolic studies with the participation of healthy volunteers (Cystinol Akut, coated tablets), 70% of the administered dose of arbutin was excreted in the urine in the form of conjugated hydroquinone for 24 hours. The recovery of the active substance in the form of free hydroquinone was 0.5% of the administered dose of arbutin.

In microbiological studies regarding E. coli, it was found that conjugate fermentation occurs with a wide spectrum of intrabacterial interaction and does not depend on the pH level of urine. In addition, the antiseptic effect increases only in the area where bacteria are present.

Inflammatory diseases of the lower urinary tract.

Adults and adolescents over the age of 12 years are prescribed 2 tablets 3 times a day. tablets should be washed down with a large amount of liquid, mainly water, taken after meals.

Unless otherwise prescribed by a doctor, a medicinal product containing arbutin should be used no more than 1 week and no more than 5 times a year.

Children. Do not use in children under the age of 12 years.

Hypersensitivity to bearberry leaves or other components of the drug.

Side effects

The side effects are evaluated according to their frequency of occurrence as follows: very often (≥1 / 10); often (≥1 / 100 to 1/10); sometimes (≥1 / 1000 to 1/100); rarely (≥1 / 10,000 to 1/1000); very rarely (1/10 000); frequency is unknown (impossible to estimate from available data).

Very rarely, patients with hypersensitivity to the stomach may complain of symptoms from the digestive tract (nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea).

From the nervous system: dizziness.

Rarely, allergic reactions such as: rash, itching, can occur.

In case of development of side effects, treatment should be discontinued and a doctor should be consulted to assess their severity.

The physician must decide on further action as necessary.

Patients with hereditary galactose intolerance, lactase deficiency and glucose-galactose malabsorption should not use this drug.

Use during pregnancy and lactation. Do not use during pregnancy or lactation.

The ability to influence the reaction rate when driving vehicles or working with other mechanisms. Does not affect.

Cystinol acut coated tablets contain bearberry leaf extract and therefore should not be used with drugs that increase the acidity of urine, since a decrease in the severity of the antibacterial effect of bearberry leaves cannot be ruled out.

Symptoms: when using the drug in doses exceeding the recommended, digestive tract disorders such as vomiting, nausea, hematuria and liver damage can occur.
