Pharmacological properties

Bismuth tribromphenolate (xeroform) has antiseptic, astringent and drying properties. The action of the drug consists in interaction with tissue proteins to form albuminates, which, like a protective film, protect sensitive nerve endings from irritation, as well as in narrowing blood vessels, reducing their permeability (exudation decreases) and inhibiting enzymes; interaction with microbial proteins suppresses their vital activity.

As an astringent, drying and antiseptic agent for inflammatory skin diseases.
